HIFF welcomes films whose cultural specificity makes their human meaning more vivid—not less universal.
Filmmakers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and across South Asian diaspora communities are eligible across the main HIFF competition. Narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, genre and music-video work will be considered according to the published rules when submissions open.
HIFF does not separate filmmakers into nationality-based trophy silos. Country, language and cultural context will instead support thoughtful programme discovery, searchable film records and editorial spotlights when the quality and volume of selected work justify them.
