Hollywood International Film Festival returns in 2027 as an international meeting place for independent cinema. We are building an experience where filmmakers are encountered in context, audiences discover work beyond familiar borders, and cultural difference becomes the beginning of a richer conversation—not a barrier to it.

Screenings are the centre of HIFF, but not the edge of it. The 2027 edition is being developed as a considered journey through cinema: encounters with filmmakers, public-facing industry learning, emerging-talent pathways, curated cultural spotlights and an awards ceremony that gives recognition weight and context.

18 competitive honours
The 2027 architecture is deliberately focused: two headline honours, eight main film competitions, three emerging-voice and impact awards, and five craft and performance distinctions. English and non-English work competes on equal terms. No cash prize is promised; recognition is built through the HIFF trophy, official laurels and certificates, festival visibility and a permanent archive.
Cinema across cultures
HIFF is not divided into nationality-based trophy silos. Cultural depth will be expressed through editorial collections, searchable film metadata and programme spotlights when the quality and volume of selected work support them.

Beyond a festival weekend
HIFF’s long-term purpose is to connect exhibition with development: a film is encountered by an audience, a filmmaker gains a relationship, a learner sees a possible path, and a cultural conversation continues after the room empties. These initiatives will grow only through confirmed partners and responsible funding—not premature promises.
Practical learning, mentorship, candid industry exchange and pathways that help independent filmmakers move from one project to the next.
A future support model intended to reduce barriers to learning and participation. Funding, eligibility and application details are still in development.
Connections between the Washington, D.C. region and filmmaking communities across South Asia, the Middle East, the United States and beyond.

HIFF’s deeper architecture connects the annual edition to a thoughtful year-round rhythm. Films meet audiences through moderated Q&As. Working knowledge moves through craft workshops. Emerging people enter through supervised NextGen experience. Promising ideas may eventually move from pitch to disciplined micro-budget production.

HIFF is developing a responsible pathway for emerging filmmakers with a compelling, achievable story and the discipline to work within real limits. The proposed model combines story development, production planning, mentorship and carefully scoped micro-budget or in-kind support. It is a future commitment—not an open grant or current funding promise.
